GTAWU and GBN Collective Agreement Signed

The Grenada Technical and Allied Workers Union 'GTAWU' and the Grenada Broadcasting Network on Monday Signed off on its collective agreement which has been pending for the period 2015 to 2017.

The Agreement which was heading to arbitration was aborted after labour minister Hon Peter David skillfully intervened, and both parties later came to an amicable agreement of 2% for 2015, 2% for 2016 and 4.5% for 2017.

The agreement was signed in the presence of both the minister of labour Hon Peter David and the labour commissioner Cyrus Griffith.

Negotiations With Unions Have “Stalled And Deadlocked”

ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada, October 9, 2019 (CMC) – The Grenada government says negotiations, with the joint negotiating union team, for salary increases for public servants have become “stalled and deadlocked”, claiming that the unions are insisting on a near 25 percent increase in pay, without “providing a shred of written justification for their demands”.
Trade, Industry, Cooperatives and CARICOM Affairs Minister, Oliver Joseph, reporting on the latest round of negotiations between the Government Negotiating Team (GNT) and the Public Workers Union (PWU) and the Technical and Allied Workers Union (TAWU) said, yesterday, that the demands of the unions “would increase the government’s expenditure on salaries by more than EC$90 million, over the next three-year contract cycle.

Grenada Government takes steps to protect the Labour Force

ST. GEORGE, GRENADA, SEPT 26. 2017, GIS: - Government is taking further steps to protect the labor force, with the approval in both Houses of Parliament of the Foreign Nationals and Commonwealth Citizens Employment Cap Act.

A motion was brought before the Upper House at its last sitting, seeking to insert in the Principal Regulation of the Act, a revised Work Permit Application.

This application solicits additional information which will show that the labour that will be brought into the country does not exist or in is short supply.

Accident free construction at Silver Sands

ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, May 4, 2017 – GIS: Not a single accident has occurred at the massive Silver Sands site since the start of construction two years ago.
This disclosure was made on Friday as Grenada joined the rest of the world in observing World Day for Safety and Health at Work.
Architect Nigel Renwick spoke to a delegation from the Ministry of Labour who dropped in to assess health and safety on the work place.
